Harper's Weekly Illustrated Banner

As children, we dream of being doctors, firefighters, astronauts, or even mermaids, pirates or superheroes, the world is full of endless possibilities. As Dr. Joy said, adults who are dissatisfied with the world around them turn to children’s books for a re-sparking of their imagination. They too want to believe that the world is full of endless possibilities. With the scars of the American Civil War still staining both the people and the land of the United States, it is no coincidence that publications like Harper’s Weekly become wildly popular. This weekly magazine involved full page illustrations, sharing news, stories, advertisements and much more throughout its various editions. Even the banner that heads every publication includes images of a painter’s palette, a globe and telescope, and a musician. These images are a nod to this childlike dream of all the possibilities that await the United States and her people in the future.
