Impeachment Trial of Andrew Johnson
This article is from Harper’s Weekly, which was an American magazine. This entire page is next to the beginning of Miss Clack’s narration in The Moonstone. This full-page article is talking about the impeachment of Andrew Johnson. The article has three illustrations: the lobby of the White House, an admittance ticket to the impeachment, and President Johnson seek advice from his counsel.
This article creates a different narrative with Miss Clack than what All the Year Round does. The article shows how Miss Clack is so dense she is as she is consumed by her Christianity and does not interact with the political world. She does not look to the outside world to have a well-rounded perception of her society. Miss Clack lives in a bubble and cares more about her good Christian charity and spreading the good Christian word.
Miss Clack writes a diary to keep track of what she does and her chapter is drenched in her own bias, whereas Mr. Godfrey used his memories, as well as Rachel's diaries to help him narrate the first section of the series. The Impeachment article is written by someone not directly involved in the impeachment and shows how important it is to recall important events, like an impeachment hearing, and remain as unbiased as possible to tell the events.
