A Husband's Crime
The advertisement for the novel, "My Husband's Crime", is the central piece to this page; this is ironic as, at this point in the story, the investigation of the theft is still in its early stages. The eventual reveal of Mr.Franklin as the unknowing culprit plays perfectly into this advertised novel's title. Having this page directly in-between chapters of the story would shape the reader's interaction with the story because it reminds the readers of the root cause of Rosanna's behaviour, and that is jealousy and sadness caused by Mr.Franklin. Rosanna would have desired to have Mr.Franklin as her husband despite the phsycial and class differene between them. She faces the painful reality that this will never ocur, and find solace only in her ability to save him from prosecution for his crime of theft. In this way teh advertisment fuctions as a tool to reduce Rosanna to her actions as opposed to an inticate human being with complex thoughts and feelings. Once again Rosanna has the attention shifted from her, this time placed into her actions to cover-up her unrequited love's crimes. The crime and its mysterious circumstances reign supreme for readers investment, rather than a mistreated and disbaled woman. This advertising placement works with the story in further expressing the lack of attention and empathy given to differently-abled people.
